Bonsey Lane Pond

(February 2000).

February continued to be a wet month and the level of water in the pond remained worryingly high.

There were even complaints from a dog walker who blamed our work for flooding his route.

At this stage we worked out how to do the fires properly by keeping a stock of wood on a dry pile from the previous week. This week only a copy of a tabloid and a match was required to get a really good fire going. The team split into two - fire loaders and choppers. The fire loaders tended to gather the material and load the fire. The choppers armed with an array of weapons and a chain saws felled the unwanted trees. This worked well and between us the trees overhanging the water were cleared.

The high level of water remained a concern. Bob and Martin were now in touch with the council to see if the engineers could come and help us.
