Bonsey Lane Pond

(June 1999).

These pictures show the pond in great distress. Rapid growing willow trees has approached the banks and in some cases taken root in the water. This has led to a large deposit of leaf mould in the water - this in turn has increased the nutrients in the water - leading to proliferation of weed and restricting pond life. Eventually the pond will fill up and all water life will die.

At this stage birds, and general pond life is struggling against a losing battle.

There is hope. All is not lost because under the official guidance of Woking's Countryside Forum - the Westfield Pond action group is forming with the aim to improve the balance a little in favour of pond life for the pleasure and advantage of everyone.
