Bonsey Lane Pond

(October 2000).

But October started damp and ended in a deluge. Days are now shorter. The pond is covered in an unknown blanket of fine weed. The weed has to be removed or it will die down into the pond generating yet more nutrients to choke the pond life next year. This particular weed is very difficult to remove, as it is very fine. The good news is that the banks we made during September seem to be holding - despite the record-breaking rainfall.

The Sun did come out early October and this brought out many dragonflies. The most friendly even settled for a few minutes "kip" on bright clothing. The rainfall this month has a flooded the far bank. Work now started to clear the trees on the final side of the pond. We started by clearing an inlet. This created a large amount of material which piled high. Efforts to light a fire failed - everything was just too wet.
